PHP code in HTML file [30 Oct 2005|07:28am]

coldweather9
Thank you for all your help!

I've noticed that if I put a PHP script in a html file, the PHP code is ignored by the server. It only works if the file has a PHP extension. Is there any way to work around this problem? I would like to insert PHP code in my html files and quit worrying about changing the file extensions.

Hi, I just found this place. It looks like you guys are very firendly and willing to help. I'm a complete newbie to PHP. I have 8 year experiance with HTML and about four years with CSS. I have some basic understanding of JavaScripting. I've been maintaining my our four sites and have built sites for others.

I was reccomended to used eFiction to maintain and keep track of my fiction that I post. I soon found out that it is PHP based. I have no earthly clue where to start.

I'm so not sure where to start with just learning PHP. Could you all be kind enough to point a girl in the direction of starting?

Any help would be greatly appreciated and I would ever be so greatful.

help! [29 May 2004|11:35pm]

[ mood | confused ]

hi, i have a question.

i'm pretty new to php. i have 4images on my website (www.snapflash.net/4images) and i've been trying my hand at editing its php files. lately i've been adding a bunch of modifications just for fun, and they all worked except for this one:

i did a bunch of edits to install something that would allow users to send each other private messages and basically, something screwed up really badly.
i'm getting these strange errors about headers whenever i log in or open my administration page (go to www.snapflash.net/4images/admin, you'll see what i'm talking about). i can't even run the modification installer because that has errors too.

the guy who wrote this is insisting that his mod could have NOTHING to do with sessions or logging in, but none of this was happening until i installed this mod.

these errors are confusing the hell out of me, since i really never touched the files that are coming up with errors. is there something i could have edited wrong that would mess up my headers and stop a log-in? :-\

i'm sorry if i was kind of vague about anything. i'm totally lost.

Wordpress Plugin: Memberlist 1.0 [27 May 2004|11:21pm]

dolphinia
I wrote my very first plugin for wordpress. :)

The plugin simply prints out the members of the blog, links their name to their website and put how many posts they had next to their names. It's fairly simple. The result looks something like this:

Members:
* Daynah (6)
* Pei (0)
* Jannah (2)
* Tot_tot (0)
* Succeda (0)
* Linda (0)

You can download the plugin here: http://scripts.php-princess.net

You can see a demo of the plugin at: http://foodlog.dolphinia.net in the lower right.

Config.php help [21 Apr 2004|07:39pm]

[ mood | frustrated ]

Hi, I am installing eFiction and am currently experiencing problems changing the CHMOD settings on the Config.php file.

It says that I have to change the settings on CHMOD to 666, I have done this several times, but each time I change it the file reverts back to the default of 706.

Does anyone know why this would be? I am getting stressed out over this and I am sure that there has to be an easy solution for it.

Many thanks for the help.

Hello. Can someone tell me how to do this?

I am using Advanced Guestbook 2.3.1, which is a guestbook script in PHP. I want private messages to show in the guestbook as links saying "private message" or something, and I want the link to go directly to the private message by me entering my admin password. Megabook has a feature like this. When you click on the "private message" link, I want it to show the private message instead of just keeping it totally hidden. (Accessible only by the admin when they log in.) I don't like the fact that you can't immediately tell if you have a private message unless you log in. I want to see a link that says "private message" like in megabook.

My guestbook is here: http://yumi.hello-tokyo.net/mini/

if anyone has advanced guestbook and knows how to do that, i'd appreciate it.

newbie with a question ^_^ [29 Sep 2003|10:07am]

Hihi!
I happened to come across this group in a search for communties that are involved in PHP scripting, and joined up because I reeeeeaaaally need help doing PHP scripting ^^;;.
I'm new to it, obviously. I am a web-designer / master, and currently am building and designing the website for the Our Lady of Visitation parish and school, and they want me to create a section of the site where the teachers and the Monsignor will be able to upload students assignments to the site. This is so the students and parents may go online and check to see what assignments are due.
But, accourding to other programmers on DeviantArt, in order to allow them to do this, I need to use PHP.

Now, I've downloaded PHP Nuke 6, unzipped it, but where do I go from there? I'm not seeing any exe files anywhere.
Also, do I need Linux in order to create Perl scripts?

**sighs** I am so confused! Heeeeelp!!! Please!!

I definetely know I'm going to be posting quite a lot on this journal ^^;;!

Thanks ahead of time!

W32.Blaster.Worm [14 Aug 2003|02:33pm]

dolphinia
[ mood | tired ]

It's been just a bad day at work. The W32.Blaster.Worm may have hit one of our servers and spread onto some of our staff computers. Just as a precaution, we installed the patch on every machine, just in case. I suggest you do so as well. If you're using Windows NT 4.0, 2000, XP, and/or Server 2003, I suggest you do so immediately. Those are the only OS that will be affected. Other things to do to protect yourself -- 1) Enable a Firewall, 2) Update Windows (there should be a shortcut on your start menu) 3) Update your antivirus software 4) And if you're infected, read the instructions on how to remove the worm. Patch up your computer asap!

Patches:

...I'm very exhausted. We have a few hundred machines... and it required a administrator to login. *sigh* So the users couldn't have updated this themselves.

Microsoft Plans Toilet with Internet Access [07 May 2003|11:31am]

dolphinia
Just imagine, being able to surf while you sit on a public toilet!

"The world's first portable lavatory with internet access is due to be unveiled this summer. The 'iLoo' is being built by Microsoft's internet arm MSN which aims to showcase its creation at summer music festivals."

That's just great. Portable toilets are really, really, I mean, really smelly. I can't even be close to one because of the smell, and I rather wait and go at home before I step in one of those. But now, they'll have computers in the same room as the smelly toilet. Just imagine the keyboard on that thing! Ick!

PHP Cookbook [06 May 2003|02:59am]

dolphinia
[ mood | happy ]

PHP CookbookI was at Fry's yesterday and ran across this PHP Cookbook. I was standing there and reading it for about 20 minutes, and really enjoying the book. The book had a lot of tricks and other problem solving techniques that I didn't find in my other PHP books (not that I had many of those either). I want a PHP book that will propose a problem and attempt to solve it in the most efficent way. There's no point in buying a PHP book if I already know the basics of PHP.

However, I put it back since I knew I could buy it at Borders for a lot cheaper. ;) I can't wait to til it arrives. :)

Do you own any PHP books? Do you recommend any of them? I think I should add a book review part to this site. :)

You can get an extra 10% discount on this book if you use one of these links to buy it: Link 1 | Link 2 | Link 3 (Offer limited to the first three people.)
